Welcome to the WPBeginner Spotlight, a monthly recap of the most notable WordPress news, product updates, and community moves from February 2026.
WordPress 7.0 Beta 1
WordPress 7.0 Beta 1 is open for testing ahead of a planned April 9, 2026 release. This update is one of the most significant in years, with a refreshed admin interface that improves view transitions, typography, and delivers a more web-app-like experience. It also introduces the Web Client AI API to host generative AI models server-side, enabling content creation, summarization, and admin automations directly from the block editor. Real-time collaboration is under development too, using a new sync engine to let multiple users edit without blocking one another.
WPForms: Interactive Map Field
WPForms expanded its Geolocation addon with a Map field that allows visitors to search for and pin exact locations in forms. Capabilities include multiple pinned locations, over 2,000 marker icons and custom uploads, marker sizing, branded info boxes, visual selection that auto-populates entries, and clean exports with coordinates for Google Sheets and notifications. This is especially useful for multi-location businesses collecting delivery or event addresses.
AIOSEO: SEO Checklist and AI Suite
All in One SEO released version 4.9.4, adding an SEO Checklist that guides users through post-setup optimizations to ensure launch-ready basics. A new AI Suite centralizes tools such as AI Brand Tracker and AI Keyword Tracking, plus content settings. AIOSEO also added full LLMs.txt support and options to generate full articles in Markdown to help with AI crawlability and citation workflows.
WPConsent: GTM Container Scanning
WPConsent upgraded its scanner to analyze Google Tag Manager containers and detect scripts running inside them, closing a common blind spot. This helps site owners identify cookies and tracking services loaded via GTM and maintain better GDPR/CCPA compliance without deep technical expertise.
MonsterInsights: Google Ads From the Dashboard
MonsterInsights now lets users create and manage Google Ads from within the WordPress dashboard. Site owners can enter business info and campaign goals, craft ad copy and visuals, set budgets, and launch campaigns without leaving WordPress. The feature is available in MonsterInsights Lite. The release also includes five new eCommerce reports for WooCommerce and Easy Digital Downloads: orders by location, spend by day and hour, refunds tracking, and geographic refund data—turning analytics into actionable insights.
Smash Balloon: WooCommerce Reviews in Reviews Feed Pro
Smash Balloon added support for WooCommerce reviews in Reviews Feed Pro, allowing merchants to display product reviews anywhere on their site. The plugin auto-detects WooCommerce, pulls reviews by product, category, or tag, updates feeds automatically, and includes a selection wizard to search by name or SKU. This makes it easier to surface persuasive testimonials at the point of purchase.
MemberPress AppKit: Branded Mobile Apps
MemberPress launched AppKit, a no-code tool to build branded iOS and Android apps for membership sites. Using a visual builder, creators can match app styling to their site, sync content from WordPress, and send push notifications for lessons, replies, or offers. AppKit reduces the technical and financial barriers to delivering a native app experience and boosting member engagement.
Easy Digital Downloads: Abandoned Cart Recovery
Easy Digital Downloads added native Abandoned Cart Recovery. The feature detects inactive carts and triggers automated email sequences including nudges, value reminders, and final reminders with direct checkout links and optional discount codes. It includes visual customer journey mapping, recovery analytics showing recovered revenue and rates, customizable inactivity timeouts, integrated discount codes, and smart purchase detection that cancels pending emails when a purchase completes.
