Why I chose a personality quiz
I wanted a new, low-friction way to grow and segment my email list. Personality quizzes work because they feel personal and entertaining: people will trade an email for tailored results. Rather than using a separate quiz platform, I built one inside WordPress with WPForms Pro + the Quiz Addon. That let me create a code-free quiz, require email capture before showing results, and automatically tag subscribers by outcome.
The benefits
– Engagement: Quizzes hold attention and encourage completion.
– Higher conversions: Personalized results convert better than generic lead magnets.
– Segmentation: Outcomes let you automatically route subscribers into targeted follow-ups.
Quick example
A travel quiz, “What’s Your Travel Style?” could return Adventurer, Relaxation Seeker, or Culture Explorer and send each group into a different email sequence with relevant tips and product suggestions.
What you need
– WPForms Pro (Quiz Addon is included in Pro or higher)
– An email provider connected to WPForms (Mailchimp, ConvertKit, ActiveCampaign, etc.)
Overview of the build
1. Install WPForms Pro and activate the Quiz Addon.
2. Create a new form and enable Quiz Mode.
3. Select Personality Quiz type.
4. Define 3–5 personality outcomes.
5. Add 5–10 questions and map each answer to a personality.
6. Add required email capture and consent.
7. Create outcome messages and apply conditional logic.
8. Test thoroughly, publish, and promote.
Step-by-step
1) Install WPForms + the Quiz Addon
– Install WPForms Pro, verify your license (WPForms » Settings), and activate the Quiz Addon (WPForms » Addons).
– Pro tip: Connect your email service in WPForms’ Marketing tab so quiz leads go straight into lists and receive tags.
2) Enable Quiz Mode and create the form
– WPForms » Add New, start a blank form.
– In Settings » Quiz toggle “Enable Quiz.” Save.
3) Pick Personality Quiz
– Choose Personality Quiz rather than Graded/Weighted. Personality mode maps answers to types instead of scoring correct answers. Add a concise, catchy title and short description (e.g., “What’s Your Travel Style?”).
4) Define personality types
– Add 3–5 distinct types in the Quiz settings (three is often simplest for clear results). Save them so you can assign them to answers.
5) Add questions and map answers
– Use Multiple Choice (best), Dropdown, or Checkboxes. Keep the quiz to 5–10 focused questions.
– For each answer option, select which personality it corresponds to. The addon tallies which type receives the most selections.
– Map every answer; leaving options unmapped will break outcome logic.
– WPForms’ AI Choices can propose options — edit them to match your audience.
6) Email capture and consent
– Add a Page Break then put the Email field on the final page so you can require an email before showing results. Make Email required and label it clearly (e.g., “Where should we send your results?”).
– Add a consent checkbox and disable “Include in Quiz Scoring” so it doesn’t affect results.
– Customize the submit button (e.g., “See My Results”). Connect the form to your email provider to add contacts and tags automatically.
7) Outcomes and conditional logic
– Create one Outcome per personality in the Outcomes tab.
– Structure each outcome: short celebration, 2–3 lines explaining the type, 1–2 targeted recommendations, and a single clear CTA (link to content, a product, or a lead magnet).
– Use the {quiz_personality_type} smart tag to insert the personality name into messages.
– Set conditional logic so Outcome X displays when Quiz Personality Type equals X.
Sample outcome copy
You are an {quiz_personality_type}!
You love excitement and outdoor experiences. Try destinations with hiking, kayaking, or wildlife tours. Tips: Pack light and plan a spontaneous local activity. Next step: Browse our recommended gear for {quiz_personality_type} travelers.
8) Test, publish, and style
– Preview the quiz and test multiple combinations to confirm validations, correct outcome mapping, email capture, and integration into your email lists.
– Test mobile layout and tappability.
– Embed via the WPForms Embed wizard or paste the shortcode into posts, pages, or widgets. Optionally style the form to match your site.
Promotion ideas
– Share on social media — quizzes are highly shareable.
– Feature the quiz in relevant blog posts, your homepage, or the sidebar.
– Send it to your existing list to re-engage subscribers.
Quick FAQs
– How many questions? 5–10 is ideal.
– How long to build? 10–15 minutes if you already know your outcomes; allow more time for copy polishing.
– Personality vs Graded? Graded quizzes score right/wrong answers; personality quizzes map answers to types.
– How many types? 3–5; three is usually easiest and effective.
Next steps
– Create targeted email sequences, resources, and lead magnets for each outcome.
– Experiment with image choices, conversational forms, or small incentives for sharing.
– Track conversions with Google Analytics and iterate on questions, copy, and CTAs.
Bottom line
Personality quizzes are a friendly, effective way to convert visitors into subscribers and automatically segment them. With WPForms Pro + the Quiz Addon you can build a short, engaging, code-free quiz that captures email before results, delivers personalized outcomes, and routes new subscribers into tailored follow-ups.
