Welcome to the WPBeginner Spotlight — a monthly roundup of the most important WordPress news, updates, and community happenings from February 2026.
WordPress 7.0 Beta 1
WordPress 7.0 Beta 1 is available for testing ahead of an anticipated April 9, 2026 release. This is one of the most transformative updates in years, featuring a major admin refresh that brings smoother view transitions, updated typography, and a modern web-app feel. WordPress 7.0 also adds the Web Client AI API to host generative AI models in the backend, enabling content generation, summarization, and admin automation from the block editor. Real-time collaboration is in development too, using a new sync engine to allow multiple users to edit posts and pages simultaneously without locking each other out.
WPForms: Interactive Map Field
WPForms expanded its Geolocation addon with a Map field that lets visitors search for and pin exact locations inside forms. Features include interactive maps with multiple pinned locations, over 2,000 marker icons and custom uploads, marker sizing, branded info boxes, visual selection that auto-populates entries, and clean exports (including coordinates) for Google Sheets and notifications. This is especially useful for multi-location businesses collecting delivery details or event addresses.
AIOSEO: SEO Checklist and AI Suite
All in One SEO released version 4.9.4, adding an SEO Checklist to guide users through post-setup optimization and ensure launch-ready ranking basics. A new AI Suite centralizes tools like AI Brand Tracker, AI Keyword Tracking, and content settings. AIOSEO has also added full LLMs.txt support and options to generate full articles in markdown to improve AI crawlability and citations.
WPConsent: GTM Container Scanning
WPConsent upgraded its scanner to analyze Google Tag Manager (GTM) containers and detect scripts running inside them. This eliminates traditional “blind spots” associated with tag managers, helping site owners maintain stricter GDPR/CCPA compliance without deep technical knowledge by identifying cookies and tracking services loaded via GTM.
MonsterInsights: Google Ads From Dashboard
MonsterInsights now integrates Google Ads creation and management within the WordPress dashboard. Users can set business info and campaign goals, create ads (copy, visuals), set budgets, and launch campaigns without leaving WordPress. The integration is available even in the free MonsterInsights Lite. The release also adds five specialized eCommerce reports for WooCommerce and Easy Digital Downloads: orders by location, spend by day and hour, refunds tracking, and geographic refund data — turning analytics into actionable business insights.
Smash Balloon: WooCommerce Reviews in Reviews Feed Pro
Smash Balloon now supports WooCommerce reviews in Reviews Feed Pro, allowing merchants to display product reviews anywhere on their site. The plugin auto-detects WooCommerce and makes it easy to pull reviews by product, category, or tag. Feeds update automatically, and a selection wizard searches products by name or SKU. This helps surface persuasive testimonials at the point of purchase.
MemberPress AppKit: Branded Mobile Apps
MemberPress launched AppKit, a no-code tool for building branded iOS and Android apps for membership sites. Using a visual builder, creators can match app branding to their site, sync content with WordPress, and send push notifications for lessons, replies, or offers. AppKit lowers the technical and financial barriers to delivering a native app experience and increasing member engagement.
Easy Digital Downloads: Abandoned Cart Recovery
Easy Digital Downloads added a native Abandoned Cart Recovery feature. It detects inactive carts and triggers automated email sequences (nudges, value reminders, final reminders) with direct checkout links and optional discount codes. The system includes visual customer journeys, recovery analytics (recovered revenue and rates), customizable inactivity timeouts, integrated discount codes, and smart purchase detection that cancels pending emails if the user completes their purchase.
